Reiki/Animal Reiki-What’s It All About?

November 25, 2009

This is the description from Wikipedia, the free web encyclopedia:
“Reiki is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui. After three weeks of fasting and meditating on Mount Kurama, in Japan, Usui claimed to receive the ability of "healing without energy depletion." A portion of the practice, tenohira or palm healing, is used as a form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Tenohira is a technique whereby practitioners believe they are moving "healing energy" (a form of ki) through the palms.”
There are different forms of Reiki: Traditional Japanese, Western, and other systems. Reiki teaches that there is a universal life force or spiritual energy if you will, that can be used to induce a healing effect. Students of Reiki can access this energy by receiving an attunement by a Reiki Master.
Reiki is a holistic healing approach on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. A Reiki Practioner is a conduit so to speak. The universe’s energy will flow through the practitioner's hands to the recipient to activate or enhance the natural healing processes. The healing process can be through a hands on or hands off approach. Healing can also be ‘sent’ long distance.
Here at BMR Acres, we have taken this approach one step further and applied it toward our animals at the farm. We have seen a definite improvement in the calmness and approachability in our animals. I believe the reiki has calmed the animals considerably, especially the sheep. The reiki energy has brought in an even more trusting interaction between the animals and people, which is what we want to see on our farm.
Some farms only see their livestock as just that, livestock and nothing more. We see each animal with their own personality, their own likes, dislikes and each has to be handled and treated in their own way. And of course, loved and respected since they are an extension of our family. "Reiki teachs both participants; the animal and the reiki student, how to interact with each other and how to respect and receive each other's energy space."
As strongly as I believe in Reiki, Reiki is in no way intended to replace the service or advice of a medical professional, physician, or veterinarian.
