A Little About Us
November 25, 2009
My name is Mary Ellen Rose and I am one half of BMR Acres. Brian Rose, my spouse, is the other half. We are both fairly new to farming. It all started with the purchase of one pregnant alpaca named Miss Money Penny in 2001. In 2003, we purchased and built on our property in Canastota, NY and it has all blossomed from there. We are not your typical “farmers.” For one, we raise alternative livestock (alpacas, sheep). Not your typical upstate New York dairy or beef cattle. Second, our way of thinking, in relation to farming, may not be everyone’s idea of farming, it works for us. We believe people are finally realizing that everything and everyone is connected on this planet in some way, shape, or form! We have always believed the best way to live is to do things as close to nature as possible without disruption, or as little disturbance as possible, to the earth. We have tried to apply that same principal to our farming lifestyle. We all know that no matter how great things are, mankind has that drive to improve things, wanting to make them easier, better, and faster. Sometimes, simple is still best. And the simplest and best way, in our opinion, is nature’s way. We feel mankind has strayed too far from that state of mind. We’re not saying man shouldn’t continue to learn, research and improve on things, but we need to really think about the effects those improvements will have on everything else. With that in mind, research has taken me down many paths. Many hours of my time have been spent reading, learning , training, researching, & taking classes, and of course, there’s always more to learn. Some of my training has been in natural healing, shamanism, & reiki, just to name a few. I try to apply those aspects of what I have learned to the farming lifestyle and I strongly believe our farming lifestyle is better because of it.
